Mark has combined his expertise in community development and planning with his small business and entrepreneurship background to be the FNR specialist in commercial and residential land development.
Mark has served two terms on the city planning commission and is currently finishing his second term on the Klamath County Planning Commission. Mark teaches at Oregon Tech as assistant professor in the business and management department and his wife is the technology coordinator and teacher for Klamath County School District.
The Ahalt’s first real estate venture and business in Klamath Falls was the neighborhood coffee shop, Renaldo’s, a real hot spot in the Campus Square complex in the early nineties. Now Mark and Tammy are working on a small neighborhood plan encompassing 115 acres above Lakeshore Drive, called BuckRidge Community. “BuckRidge will be a prototype for how we can create social and environmental long term relationships with our homes, our neighbors and the environment we live in. We have spent over ten years working on trails, buffer zones for wildlife, dedicated park spaces and 30 homesites that will harmoniously blend with the topography and with each other. We believe that sustainability is more about how we design our use of resources and our spatial relationships with each other. The model home should be complete in 2017.”
Mark is working with Klamath County Economic Development to develop a vision and future for TECH HILLS. Tech Hills is an opportunity for industry and commerce to locate next to Oregon Tech and take advantage of the skills and programs being developed on campus. “There is so much opportunity and need to expand the vision of what the entire Campus Way and Dan O’Brien community can look like.”
Besides my interest in community development, I have a real soft spot for helping newcomers to the Basin and young people find their first home in the Basin. I’ll go to great lengths to help you refine your search and secure a home to build your future on. Klamath Falls is a community in transition and there are lots of ways to participate and get involved in our future.
