While it's no secret that people in the Pacific Northwest are proud of their efforts to save the planet, not everyone is aware of how those efforts can be put into practice. Recycling is critical to successful environmental programs, and our real estate agents want buyers who are considering Klamath Falls homes for sale to know the options available to them.
- Curbside Collection
Weekly mixed recyclable collection is offered by the City of Klamath Falls for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs, metal cans, including aerosol and scrap metal. Waste Management provides 35-, 64- and 96-gallon rollcarts to be filled up and left curbside for scheduled collection. The service can be weekly, monthly or on-call. While not recyclable, the city also provides a collection service for yard debris within size and weight restrictions. Complete recycling guidelines can be found in a handy brochure.
- Glass Depot
You may have noticed that glass bottles and jars were not listed among the items you could dispose of in the mixed recyclable collection. In this case, you can bring your items to Waste Management Klamath Falls at 1812 Greensprings Drive. For additional questions and operating hours, call the customer service line at 1-800-808-5901 or send an email to pnwrsservices@wm.com. If you prefer, you can recoup a little money by using the Klamath Falls Redemption Center located at 272 Ebelein Avenue. Between 8 AM and 6 PM daily, you can return up to 350 containers via reverse vending machines. There are also some retailers that will give an additional 20% of the value in store credits to provide an incentive to consumers. Non-profits can enroll to benefit from donations.
- Oregon E-Cycles
Newcomers to the area may not realize that it is illegal to dispose of computers, monitors, and TVs in the garbage, and doing so carries a heavy fine. Fortunately, there are free recycling locations that will happily accept them. Electronic recycling is a reclamation source for many valuable materials that contain toxic materials such as lead, cadmium, and mercury. Recycling keeps them out of the environment. There is no charge for recycling these items, but there may be fees for pick-up services. You can bring up to seven items in one visit. For additional questions, call 1-888-532-9253 or look for a convenient location on the Oregon state website.
- Event Recycling Program
Community events can create a tremendous amount of waste that can also be efficiently recycled. Organizers can contact the City of Klamath Falls Parks office to reserve recycling bins at (541)-883-5351. After the organizer completes a registration form, a city staff member will help plan for the number of bins and bags the event requires. They can then be picked up at the office at 226 S. 5th Street. You will be provided with everything you need to help keep your event clean and debris-free, supporting the recycling program at the same time.
