Walking Paths - Klamath Basin - Fisher Nicholson Realty

March 30 is Take a Walk in the Park Day, and what better time to get out and explore the amazing landscape of Klamath County. Nestled among the rugged mountains and picturesque lakes of Southern Oregon, the Klamath Falls area is a great place for a walk in the park.

Our real estate agents are excited to share some of their favorite hikes and nature walks in and around the Klamath Basin. These relatively short, easy paths are great for hikers of all experience levels.

  • OC and E Woods Line State Trail - Klamath Falls, OR 97603
Following the former course of the Oregon, California, and Eastern Railroad (OC&E), the OC and E Woods Line State Trail is an amazing resource for hikers in the Klamath Basin. The trail spans 100 miles and follows mostly flat terrain through some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. The trail's western terminus is within walking distance of many Klamath Falls homes for sale, and the pathway is open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

  • Shoalwater Bay Trailhead - Klamath Falls, OR 97601
Just a 30-minute drive from Downtown Klamath Falls, the Shoalwater Bay Trailhead offers access to a network of trails that crisscross the slopes of Spence Mountain, with its 5,850-foot summit overlooking Upper Klamath Lake. You can choose among several different routes from this single starting point. The Shoalwater/Old Eagle Loop is an easy 4.5-mile stroll that includes a gentle climb over the mountain's shoulder, followed by a picturesque section along the lakeshore. Or you could also tackle the South/North Ridge Loop, which is a grueling 15.5-mile trek across the summit.

  • Collier Memorial State Park - 46000 US-97, Chiloquin, OR 97624
537-acre Collier Memorial State Park is a beautiful area around the confluence of the Willamson River and Spring Creek. The latter is spring-fed, emerging from the ground almost as a fully-formed river. Trout fishing is popular here in spring and summer, and the park also includes campgrounds and a museum dedicated to the region's logging history. There are also some great hiking trails, including the 4.1-mile Collier State Park Loop, which traverses easy terrain through forests and along both streams. Collier Memorial State Park is just minutes from these Chiloquin homes for sale

  • Mountain Lakes Wilderness - Klamath Falls, OR 97601
The Mountain Lakes Wilderness is a spectacular 30-square-mile area within Fremont-Winema National Forest. Made up of chilly alpine lakes and the rugged slopes of the Southern Cascades, this area includes more than 25 miles of hiking trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to very strenuous. The 8.2-mile Mountain Lakes Trail is a great starting point. Less than an hour from Klamath Falls, the trail has a moderate difficulty rating and forms a thorough loop through the wilderness, including views of several lakes and mountain peaks.

  • Moore Mountain - Klamath Falls, OR 97601
Located right across the Link River, Moore Mountain is a charming hiking area that offers some of the best trails close to town. Dozens of trails zigzag over and around the mountain, many of them looping in and out of Moore Park. Varied terrain, lush vegetation, and expansive views of Upper Klamath Lake make this a fantastic place to hike, and the easy-to-moderate terrain makes it accessible to anyone. The Nature Trail and Sawmill Trail are particularly good for beginners.
