Cycling in Klamath County, OR - Fisher Nicholson Realty

May is National Bike Month, and our real estate agents are excited to hit the road again around Klamath County. After a long winter, springtime offers the perfect opportunity to get outside and stretch your legs.

Klamath County has earned a reputation as one of the best places for a bike ride in the Pacific Northwest. Whether you're into mountain biking or road cycling, you'll find an amazing array of routes to follow in Klamath County. These are some of our favorites.

  • Lake of the Woods Loop - Falls Highway, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
Beginning at Great Meadow Sno-Park within Fremont-Winema National Forest, the Lake of the Woods Loop is a moderately challenging 9-mile loop that encircles Lake of the Woods and nearby Fish Lake. In terms of wild scenery close to home, this loop is tough to beat. There are some beautiful stands of old-growth timber along the way, and the resort at Lake of the Woods offers refreshments. This route is just 30 minutes outside Klamath Falls, making it a convenient trip from these Klamath Falls homes for sale

  • Westside/Fort Klamath Loop - Fort Klamath, OR 97626
There are a lot of excellent road cycling routes in Klamath County, but few more thoroughly enjoyable than the Westside Loop (sometimes referred to as the Fort Klamath Loop). Beginning at the Pelican Guard Station Day Use Area, this moderate 47-mile loop follows Westside Road through some truly spectacular scenery, passing through Fort Klamath at roughly the midpoint of the journey. Locals love this route because the road has wide shoulders and minimal car traffic as well as sweeping views.

  • Spence Mountain Loop - 18515 Volcanic Legacy Scenic Biway, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
Development of the Spence Mountain Project has been a labor of love for mountain bikers in the Klamath Falls area. On a 7,400-acre of forested land just 15 miles from Klamath Falls, a vast network of mountain biking trails has been in development for years. The most commonly used route is the 9.7-mile loop formed by the Spence Mountain and Hooligan Trails, considered moderately challenging. It includes some rugged terrain up and down the mountain, but numerous routes are available, totaling more than 50 miles. You can access the trails from the Spence Mountain Trailhead on Highway 140.

  • Clover Creek Road - Clover Creek Road, Keno, OR 97627
An outstanding paved road for cycling just west of Klamath Falls, Clover Creek Road stretches 22 miles from its intersection with Dead Indian Memorial Road to the Community of Keno. It's downhill almost the entire way, and the views of the Southern Cascades are tough to beat. Of course, the flipside is that it's mostly uphill going back, but you can always pedal Clover Creek Road as a one-way ride, ending in Keno near these Keno homes for sale.

  • Crater Lake Loop - Rim Drive, Crater Lake, OR 97604
No discussion of cycling in Klamath County is complete without mentioning Crater Lake. This natural wonder is nestled in the northern corner of the county within Crater Lake National Park. There are numerous cycling options in the park, including mountain miking trails and winter far-tire biking options, but the most famous route, by far, is Rim Drive. Completely encircling Crater Lake, Rim Drive is a 33-mile loop that offers absolutely spectacular views.
