Go Paddling This Summer - Klamath Falls, OR - Fisher Nicholson Realty

Klamath Falls is an amazing place to live, especially if you love being on the water. There are plenty of spots nearby for canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and more. Our real estate agents can help you not only to find the right home for your needs but also to get to know the area and what it has to offer once you move here. Here are our five favorite summer paddling spots in Klamath Falls.

  1. Jackson F. Kimball State Park - Chiloquin, OR 97624
Located near Chiloquin homes for sale, this park is home to Wood River Run, a four-mile stretch of crystal-clear river that beginners and experienced paddlers can enjoy. It gets less traffic than the touristy Crater Lake, making it a better spot for locals. It also has beautiful scenery and is great for spotting a variety of birds, wildlife, and more.

  2. Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge - 26661 Rocky Point Rd., Klamath Falls, OR 97601
In addition to being a habitat for all sorts of different waterbirds, the wildlife refuge is home to Upper Klamath Lake, a perfect spot for canoeing and kayaking. The area has two different paddling trails: a 3.5-mile one, and a longer, 9.5-mile one, for those looking for more of a challenge. The trails are open only to paddlers, so you can avoid larger, louder craft, like motorboats and jetskis.

  3. Collier Memorial State Park - 46000 US-97, Chiloquin, OR 97624
Another hidden gem in nearby Chiloquin, Collier Park is home to Spring Creek. There are great paddling options here whether you're a veteran or just getting started. Spring Creek is also home to a rare and beautiful type of algae called mare's eggs. The algae grows in bubbles that look like eggs or smooth stones of different colors—a beautiful sight as you paddle up and down the creek.

  4. Veterans Memorial Park - 10 George Nurse Way, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
This park is where the Klamath River begins—a pristine area that's perfect for paddling. The water is fairly calm, so it's not a difficult trail, but at 16 miles, it is a bit of a longer journey than the other areas on this list, so be prepared to spend the day on the water. Starting at Lake Ewauna and ending at Keno Dam, the trail is also a great spot for rowing.

  5. Fremont-Winema National Forest - 2819 Dahlia St., Suite A, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
This gorgeous area in the cascades is home to Lake of the Woods, a 1,250-acre area perfect for gentle paddling. About 36 miles northeast of Klamath, it's close enough for a day trip, with plenty of canoe and kayak rentals at the nearby resort. They also have campsites, RV sites, and cabins if you want to spend a little longer or make regular weekend trips during the summer. There's also a host of great wildlife, from deer to water birds to raccoons.

This is just a taste of what the Klamath area has to offer. There are plenty of Klamath Falls homes for sale, surrounded by all kinds of natural beauty and all sorts of different outdoor activities. From paddling to fishing to swimming to hiking, there really is something for everyone. Contact us if you're ready to make Klamath Falls your new home.
