Update Patio Furniture - Homeowners - Fisher Nicholson Realty

We're thrilled you decided on a dream home from Klamath Falls homes for sale and can imagine you've worked hard since moving in to get everything in your home just right. But maybe you've left the best for last, whether it's the patio, backyard dining area, or garden entertainment area. Our real estate agents have a lot of ideas about improving the home's exterior, including making the patio an extension of the home and increasing your living space.

Complete your modifications to outdoor structures and systems, including outdoor kitchen; features for shade and privacy; flooring, whether concrete, paving stones, bricks, or grass; and garden, landscaping, and decorative elements. Now you're ready for furniture. Here's some advice on this key element of updating your patio.

Shopping for Patio Furniture

Call it what you like—patio furniture, garden furniture, or furniture for your outdoor entertainment area—you have a lot to choose from. From simple and inexpensive to high-end, you can find something for every space and every style.

Lawn, garden, and patio furniture is typically made from these materials:

  • Wrought Iron - Easier to manipulate than cast iron, wrought iron was popular during the mid-20th century and has made a comeback for those who love the sleek, simple beauty of the material. Look for vintage outdoor pieces in wrought iron; they're available from antique shops and estate sales.
  • Aluminum - Lighter and less expensive than wrought iron or cast iron, aluminum is versatile and affordable.
  • Cast iron - Heavy, durable, and just right for more formal settings, cast iron furniture also probably won't blow away; you should be able to leave it out year-round.
  • Plastic or Resin - Garden furniture of these materials is mass manufactured; it's lightweight, inexpensive, and fairly durable—although UV rays will break them down in time. While you may want to invest in something a little more uptown, it's good to have some inexpensive plastic chairs standing by.
  • Rattan - Some mistake this tropical-looking wood for bamboo, but it's actually rattan and enjoying a resurgence in popularity.
  • All-Weather or Resin Wicker - Authentic wicker is beautiful, but this clever look-alike holds up against the elements.
  • Wood - Outdoor furniture of natural materials such as wood is a harmonious choice; however, wood must be treated now and then to endure the elements.

Time to start shopping. And in case you didn't know, by August, most garden furniture is on sale. Here are some pieces you may want to fit into your outdoor space:

  • Chaise Lounge - For basking or dozing in the sun.
  • Dining Suit - Whether sleek and simple or more formal, your selection depends on the size of your space.
  • Comfy Armchairs and Coffee Tables - These are a must for visiting and having coffee or drinks.
  • Ottoman - Put your feet up and enjoy.
  • Loveseat and Sofa - Have both if you've got the room.
  • Chairs - For dining or just informal seating, you can't have enough of these.
