Enhance the Functionality of Your New Home | Fisher Nicholson Realty

After searching numerous Klamath Falls homes for sale, the place you've chosen is everything you always dreamed it would be! Well, almost. A few small things are lacking, making it difficult to transition from your old home to your new one. Fortunately, most of these things are minor problems with easy fixes. Here are some issues you may encounter in your new home and what you can do to address them.

  • Lack of Closet Space. Maybe there aren't enough closets in your new home, or the closets are too small to accommodate your things. Either way, you have a few options. The simplest is to get some plastic storage containers and put them under the bed. Or add a clothes rack and some shelves, hang some drapery in front of it, and you've got a makeshift closet. You might also invest in an armoire or a wardrobe, which provides extra space to hang clothes. Finally, consider turning a whole room into a walk-in closet if your house has extra space. Put up some hanging bars, shoe racks, and whatever else you want; you've got as much storage space as you need.

  • Inadequate Electrical Outlets in Outdoor Spaces. If you enjoy spending time outdoors and want to power devices like string lights, electric grills, or outdoor speakers, consider installing outdoor-rated electrical outlets. These weatherproof outlets can be added to your patio, deck, or garden area, providing convenient power sources for your outdoor activities. Make sure to hire a qualified electrician for this installation to ensure safety and compliance with electrical codes.

  • Pedestal Sinks. A pedestal sink may look pretty, but it eliminates the cabinet space underneath, where you're used to keeping cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc. Fortunately, shelving units are designed to fit directly under your pedestal sink and provide the storage space you're missing. You can also purchase cabinets, add shelves above the sink, hang baskets from the walls, or simply hang a curtain around the bottom of the sink and store things underneath as you would normally.

  • Inadequate Lighting. Sometimes, your new home may lack sufficient lighting, making certain areas feel dim or gloomy. Consider adding floor lamps, table lamps, or wall sconces to brighten up these spaces and create a more inviting atmosphere. Don't underestimate the power of good lighting to transform the ambiance of your home.
  • No Doorknob Locks. If you're used to being able to lock your bedroom door, it can be jarring to move to a house where the interior doors don't have locks. If you can find a locking doorknob that matches the existing holes in the door, you can switch it out fairly easily. You can also add a slide lock, which is easy to install and provides basic privacy.

If there's anything your new home that's missing, our real estate agents can help you find it to ensure the space is everything you need it to be. Contact us, and we'll help you find the home of your dreams!
