DIY Tips to Transform a Guest Bedroom | Fisher Nicholson Realty

Having a guest bedroom makes inviting friends and family to spend the night so much easier. Of course, you want your guests to feel welcome and comfortable, and decorating the guest bedroom appropriately is a big part of that. Are you looking for ways to take your guest bedroom from simple to sensational? Our real estate agents have some helpful tips to share.

  • Create an Accent Wall
Rather than repainting the whole room, consider creating an accent wall in your guest bedroom. If the other walls are neutral, you could paint this accent wall a brighter color, such as cobalt blue or sunflower yellow. This adds a hint of color to the guest room without making it feel too overwhelmingly bright.

Another option is to wallpaper your accent wall. While wallpaper went out of style for a while, there are some modern, textured wallpapers that interior decorators are loving these days. Wallpaper is always a good option if your walls are not perfectly smooth; it hides imperfections.

  • Add a Welcome Basket
Fill a basket with essentials your guests might need during their stay. This can include basic toiletries like toothpaste, small bottles of shampoo, and a razor. It can also include a few snacks, such as chips or granola bars. You might throw in an extra phone charger, too.

Pick an attractive basket that matches the room's decor, and tie a bow around the handle. Now, your basket can double as a decor piece. You can leave a little note by it that says "Welcome! Help yourself to anything you might need."

  • Include Reading Lamps
When you have guests, they will often be relaxing or in vacation mode. So, they may want to spend a little extra time reading before bed. A reading lamp will make this easier.

You can find some great clip-on reading lamps to attach to a headboard or nightstand. Or, just put a small lamp on the nightstand, and make sure the switch is easily reachable from the bed.

  • Decorate With Throw Blankets
A throw blanket over the chair in the corner and another at the bottom of the bed are perfect accent pieces. Not only do they add some color and interest to the room, but they're functional. You won't have to worry as much about your guests feeling chilly if you know they have some extra blankets on hand.

In the winter, you may want to replace smaller, lighter throw blankets with thicker quilts. You can add a throw pillow or two for good measure, too.

  • Choose Local Decor
Out-of-town guests will likely appreciate learning more about the local area. So, you could decorate your guest room with relics and trinkets related to favorite local spots.

Think outside the box for this one. A framed map of Klamath Falls hung above the bed would be a great option. You could also print and frame images of favorite natural features, such as Crater Lake or the Link River. Maybe you have tickets from a local show or a menu from a classic restaurant in business for years. These make for a more vintage look and can make out-of-towners feel more comfortable.

With these tips, you'll create a guest room that makes guests want to move right in. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're looking for Klamath Falls homes for sale. We'll help you find one with a wonderful guest bedroom you can decorate in style.
