Fall 2024: Explore These Klamath Basin Destinations | Fisher Nicholson Realty

The unspoiled natural beauty of the Klamath Basin makes it a popular draw for locals and tourists. Fortunately, the area sprawls across more than 6,000 square miles, providing more than enough room to avoid crowds. When our real estate agents want to unwind, they head out to these great attractions near Klamath Falls homes for sale.

  • Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway
Fire and water characterize the incredible highlights along the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. Listed as one of only 42 All-American Roads in the United States, the byway is anchored at both ends by Lassen Volcanic National Park and Crater Lake National Park. In addition to iconic Crater Lake, the deepest lake in America, the 140-mile Oregon portion of the route passes Upper Klamath Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the state. If you're up for a multi-day adventure, travel the full 500-mile length down into California by car or motorcycle.

  • Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge - 26661 Rocky Point Road, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
To coin a bad dad pun, birdwatchers flock to Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. The habitat's 23,000 acres consist primarily of freshwater hardstem-cattail marsh and open water, giving rise to the nickname "Everglades of the West." American white pelicans, herons, bald eagles, and osprey are just a few of the species that have been spotted on the grounds. Keep your eyes open for turtles, otters, muskrats, and other wildlife. Hours are 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
  • Heartline Ranch - 41837 Hwy. 62, Chiloquin, OR 97624
Experience the Klamath Basin as Native Americans and early settlers did in the days before HDTV, cell phones, and tablets. After the devastation of the 2020 wildfires, Tipi Village at Heartline Ranch has been restored to full capacity. Six new tipis sleep up to four guests each, with features including a screened BBQ fire pit, picnic table, and access to a shower facility. Six traditional campsites are available for guests with their own tents. Leashed dogs are welcome. Visit the website for rates and reservations, and be sure to visit these Chiloquin homes for sale in the area.

  • Historic Highway 66
Route 66 is an iconic highway that passes through the heart of America, but Oregon has its own spectacular road that bears the same designation. Historic Highway 66, also known as the Green Springs Highway, follows a trail that extends thousands of years back into history. The alternate name is derived from Greensprings, an area of freshwater springs, green glades, and meadows through which the highway winds. Extending 59 miles from Klamath Falls to Ashland, Highway 66 affords stunning views of the Cascade-Siskyou National Monument. Other sights include historic buildings such as Green Springs Inn, Pinehurst School, and Box R Ranch.

  • Adventure Oregon - 26661 Rocky Point Road, Klamath Falls, OR 97603
For a whole new perspective on the Klamath Basin, trade the highway for the waterway with a tour from Adventure Oregon. Guided paddling tours explore the Upper Klamath Wildlife Refuge Canoe Trail, Upper Wood River Wetlands in Kimball State Park, and Upper Williamson River in Collier State Park. Sit back and take in the scenery on a pontoon boat tour of Harriman Creek and Pelican Bay. Adventure Oregon also conducts fishing charters and rents canoes and kayaks for self-guided excursions.
