Take It Easy Nov. 17 Around the Klamath Basin | Fisher Nicholson Realty

You don't have to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy a walk out in nature on a beautiful day. You don't need a lot of special gear, and you don't need to walk for miles over steep and rocky terrain. November 17th is National Take a Hike Day, which encourages everyone to go out, find a trail, and explore. There are few better places to celebrate this day than Southern Oregon, with plenty of amazing trails near Klamath Falls homes for sale. Here are a few gentle ones that prove you don't need all day or tons of experience to experience the great outdoors.

  • Link River Trail - Link River Trailhead
Link River Trail is a 2.7-mile venture that takes about an hour to complete. The all-natural gravel trail runs parallel with the Link River, providing beautiful views of the water and local plants and wildlife. In most places, the grade is less than 5%, with a total elevation gain of about 65 feet. The trail is also somewhat wheelchair and stroller accessible, though you'll need special, all-terrain tires or a motorized conveyance to navigate the rough, gravel terrain. Going in November, the heat likely won't be too bad, but it's still recommended that you bring bottled water and go in the morning to stay cool and hydrated.

  • Klamath Falls Geo Trail - Oregon Institute of Technology
Constructed in 2016 near a geothermal power plant, Klamath Falls Geo Trail is a short trail that's well worth your time. Connecting Oregon Tech with Crystal Terrace Senior Living Facility and Sky Lakes Medical Center, it's popular with hikers of all ages—great for college students as well as families. The trail is a 2-mile loop with a bit of an incline, but it also has breathtaking views of Klamath Basin, including the lake and the surrounding mountains.

  • Lost Peak Via Badger Lake Trail - Fremont-Winema National Forest
For a trail that's a bit longer but still easy to hike, try Lost Peak via Badger Lake Trail. This 8.5-mile out-and-back trail takes about three hours to complete and provides views of both Lost Peak and Badger Lake. The trail is generally fairly popular, and you're likely to encounter at least a few other hikers and joggers on your journey. So if you're looking to meet others in your area who share a love of nature and hiking, this trail is a good place to start.

  • A Canal Trail - Homedale Road
Great for family hikes, A Canal Trail has a paved, asphalt surface accommodating everyone. The 3.4-mile trail connects Klamath with Altamont along the Klamath A Canal. A bike and skating path travels approximately the same route, though a little longer—5.3 miles out and back.

  • Conger Heights Park Loop - 200 Donald St., Klamath Falls, OR 97601
An out-of-the-way, local trail, Conger Heights Park Loop is only 1.4 miles, but it provides panoramic views of two different lakes: Klamath and Ewauna. There's no specific trailhead or parking lot, but there's typically street parking in the area. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful hike before work, Conger Heights is a great option.

Whether you're an expert hiker looking for a challenge or a beginner craving scenic views and a little exercise, there are plenty of amazing trails in the area that are perfect for you.
