The end of the year can be a great time to sell a home. Buyers often want to find a place before the year's end! However, staging will be very important if you decide to sell your home in late fall or early winter. You want to make sure your home looks the part: warm, cozy, and inviting. Our real estate agents are excited to share a few seasonal staging tips that are sure to come in handy.
- Add Festive Curb Appeal
At this time of year, landscaping can start to look a bit brown and drab. Shine things up with a few decorations. Silver garland wrapped around columns will catch the light and make your home sparkle. You could add white string lights to a few bushes or trees.
Other nice touches include a wreath on the door and some poinsettias on the stairs. Just try to avoid inflatables and other cartoonist decorations, as they distract from the home itself.
- Create a Tablescape
If your home has a nice dining room, consider staging it with a seasonal tablescape. Pick a nice centerpiece to serve as the focal point. A nicely decorated basket full of silver and gold pine cones would be a nice choice, as would a small, potted evergreen tree with all the trimmings.
Then, you can set the table with your holiday dishes and cloth napkins. Add wine glasses and maybe even candles for a celebratory touch. This will help potential buyers picture themselves in the home, enjoying the dining room during their own holiday celebrations.
- Simmer Orange Rinds
One way to give your home a festive, wintry scent is to simmer orange rinds, cinnamon sticks, and cloves on the stove. Just add a few of each item to a small pot, pour in a cup or two of water, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it simmer until most of the water has boiled away.
You can do this an hour or two before a showing or open house. The scent lingers for a while, and you can reuse the orange rinds, cinnamon sticks, and cloves a few times.
- Choose Cozy, Soft Blankets
A few cozy, soft blankets and pillows tossed on the couch and over chair backs can really make the space feel warm and inviting. Try to choose soft, neutral colors, like cream and pale gray, for these items. This way, they'll complement your decor and also lighten things up, which is nice this time of year when the sun sets so early.
Some other places you can decorate with blankets include over railings, on top of storage chests, and even on side chairs in the foyer.
- Accentuate Doorways and Arches
Another way to make your home feel cozy is to decorate over and around some of your doorways and openings. Garland and mistletoe over the transition from the living room to the dining room look classic and elegant. You could even use wide, red or plaid ribbon to tie a massive bow and hang it over a doorway.
You can echo the same decorations along the mantel if you have a fireplace. Imagine having the same garland over your doorway and over the fireplace. That's a cozy and cohesive look that buyers will really love.
