Visit These Klamath Basin Destinations for a Picnic Lunch | Fisher Nicholson Realty

Picnicking is such a wonderful pastime, especially in the summer months. You get to enjoy a meal with friends or family members, breathe in the fresh air, and admire nature all around you. The Klamath Basin is known for its beautiful woods, streams, and lakes, making it a great place to picnic. Here are a few parks and picnic areas our real estate agents are particularly fond of.

  • Hagelstein Park - 17301 Highway 97 N, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
Located on the shores of Klamath Lake, Hagelstein Park is a 5-acre park that's perfectly set up for picnics. There's a well-maintained picnic area with tables and a drinking fountain, along with modern, ADA-accessible restrooms.

Hagelstein Park has water access and a boat launch, so feel free to pair your picnic with some time on the lake. The park is popular with kayakers, especially later in the summer.

  • Malone Springs Day Use Area - Malone Springs Road, Klamath Falls, OR 97601
If you enjoy birdwatching, this is the perfect place for a picnic. Malone Springs Day Use Area is located along the Klamath Birding Trail, so you can count on seeing robins, thrushes, sparrows, and maybe even some waterbirds. There's also a boat launch onto Crystal Creek, and you can float all the way to Klamath Lake. Just note that only non-motorized boats are allowed.

This day use area features picnic tables for public use, but there are no restrooms on-site. Fishing is permitted in the creek for those who hold the required license.

  • Sprague River Picnic Site - South Fork, Sprague River, OR 97639
The Sprague River Picnic Site is a great one to visit with kids. There are several covered pavilions to keep you dry if it rains, along with horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, and so much more. The picnic site even has barbecue pedestals and campfire rings, so you can turn your picnic into a full barbecue if you so please!

The area around this picnic site consists of willows and other water-loving trees. There's a view of the winding river, as well as a history kiosk where you can learn a bit about the region's natural history. Restrooms and potable water are available.

  • Odessa Picnic Site - NF-3639, Kalamth Falls, OR 97601
The Odessa Picnic Site is a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch after a morning of looking at Klamath Falls homes for sale. There are plenty of picnic tables available, surrounded by lovely pines and Douglas Fir trees. There are also fire rings available if you want to stay a little longer and have a campfire.

The Odessa Picnic Site has a small boat launch to a water channel that leads to Klamath Lake. Only non-motorized watercraft are allowed, and there is no proper boat launch. Restrooms are available on-site.

  • Stevenson Park - 15300 Highway 140 E, Klamath Falls, OR 97603
    Stevenson Park
is a lovely place to picnic by the water. The park is situated along the Lost River, and fishing is allowed along the banks. The picnic area is well-maintained with newer tables, and there is a public restroom on-site.

Stevenson Park was donated to the public in 1970 and has remained a popular wildlife viewing area ever since. You can expect to see waterbirds, plenty of squirrels, and sometimes even deer. Northern Spotted Owls frequent the park, and you may hear them hooting later in the day.

Wherever you choose to picnic, we hope you enjoy your meal in the great outdoors. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're looking for a home in the area. Our agents are happy to help.
