Wildflower Walks and Nature Trails Around the Klamath Basin | Fisher Nicholson Realty

Spring has officially sprung, and one of the most delightful things about spring in the Klamath Basin is all of the colorful wildflowers. Purple, pink, yellow, white... their colors illuminate the fields and bring smiles to our faces. If you're in the mood to admire wildflowers up-close, check out some of our real estate agents' favorite local nature trails and walking paths.

The Best Wildflower Walks Near Klamath Falls

Wood River Wetland

Address: 39278 Modoc Point Rd., Chiloquin, OR 97624

If you'd like to admire birds and wildflowers at the same time, Wood River Wetland is the place to go. The boardwalk is raised above the swampy wetlands, offering close-up views. Other parts of the path are paved, which helps keep your shoes clean even on wet spring days.

Some of the flowering plants you can expect to see at Wood River Wetland include yarrow, lupine, and Canada goldenrod. A little later in the season, wild strawberries begin to blossom and then bear fruit. Just make sure you set aside some time to look at Chiloquin homes for sale after your walk.

Klamath Ridge View Trail

Address: Lakeshore Drive, Klamath Falls, OR 97601

Park in the lot at the end of Lakeshore Drive, then enjoy a stunning hike on the Klamath Ridge View Trail. This 4.1-mile trail is mostly single-track and offers amazing views of the landscape below. Flowers you'll see include:

  • Monkey Flowers
  • Coralroot Orchids
  • California Poppies
  • Balsamroot
  • Lupine

Dogs are allowed on the trail. It's a popular route for mountain bikers, so stay aware as you walk. Once people experience this trail, they usually come back. You may even want to look at Klamath Falls homes for sale and move a little closer.

High Lakes Trail

Address: NF-3640, Klamath Falls, OR 97601

The High Lakes Trail is 18.2 miles in total, but many hikers take a shorter out-and-back, allowing them to admire the gorgeous scenery without dedicating a whole day. There are wildflowers growing along many of the trail's edges, and also in various meadows and fields throughout the area. This is a popular trail, so expect to see other hikers, birdwatchers, and flower aficionados.

The High Falls Trail can be muddy, especially when the April showers arrive. However, it is well-marked, and the views are worth the puddle-jumping.

Crater Peak Trail

Address: Hwy 62, Klamath Falls, OR 97601

One of the most stunning, wildflower-dotted trails in Crater Lake National Park, the Crater Peak Trail is about 6.6 miles long with plenty of elevation gain.

If you're looking for a more moderate trail with some rocky uphill sections, this is one to check out. Once you reach the rim of the crater, you get to enjoy a panoramic view of flowering fields and Crater Lake itself.

Garfield Peak Trail

Address: Hwy 62, Klamath Falls, OR 97601

Garfield Peak Trail is another amazing choice within Crater Lake National Park. At 3.6 miles, it's significantly shorter than the Crater Peak Trail and a good choice for a morning or afternoon stroll among the wildflowers. At certain points, you can look down the hill to the side of the trail and see cascades of colorful blooms.

Garfield Peak Trail does have over 1,000 feet of elevation gain in its entirety, so be prepared for a climb. However, the trail does even out a bit after the first half mile.

As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers! Luckily, they tend to come a bit early in our area. We hope you get a chance to enjoy some of these beautiful trails. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're looking for a new home nearby.
