Adding a Retaining Wall - Homeowners - Fisher Nicholson Realty

If you've been looking at some of our gorgeous Klamath Falls homes for sale, you have surely seen some properties that have been beautifully enhanced by retaining walls. Homeowners often ask us whether or not it is a good idea to build a retaining wall on their property. Our real estate agents know that is not a simple yes or no question. There are several issues you should consider before determining your best option.

  • Aesthetics
A retaining wall can add significant curb appeal by skillfully sculpting the space. The well-constructed wall is attractive in its own right. With a wealth of available materials such as stone, brick, wood, and concrete, you can indulge your creativity in designing the perfect landscape. Unfortunately, the wall loses that appeal if it blocks a beautiful view. You will also want to give careful consideration to the materials you select. Concrete is by far the most durable option, but brick or stone may be more pleasing to the eye. Fortunately, you can enhance the concrete for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Benefits of Composting - Homeowners - Fisher Nicholson Realty

An important facet of any good gardener's regimen is adding compost to enrich the soil and feed the plants with proper nutrients. Some gardeners choose the fertilizer route, but it's well known that chemical fertilizer causes many problems, such as contamination of water supplies and disruptions to aquatic life. Plus, over time, inorganic fertilizers can leave your soil full of undesirable salts. It's far better to gradually improve your soil with such organic materials as compost and manure.

St. Patrick's Day Family Activities - Fisher Nicholson Realty

Everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day, or so the saying goes. If that's not true, it's still a great day to celebrate Irish culture. Our real estate agents want to share some hints to bring the history and legends to life with a little family fun.

  • Start the day with dinner!
Older children may enjoy helping put dinner in the crockpot so that it can simmer all day. Start with four shredded carrots (or two cups pre-cut), ten baby red potatoes cut in quarters, and one chopped onion at the bottom of the pot. Place four pounds of corned beef brisket on top of the veggies and cover with three cups of water and two cups of beef broth. Sprinkle spices from the flavor packet that came with brisket on top. Cook on low for eight hours. An hour before serving, stir in 1/2 head of shredded cabbage and cook for another hour. Dinner will be ready and waiting for you at the end of the day.
